Okay. I'm inspired. It's winter here in Australia. I have horses. I have tons of waste hay from winter feed. I have woodchip from where we took a tree down. Currently making a big compost ring out of chicken wire which will be filled with layers of poo, woodchip & hay that's been poo'd & pee'd all over. Might be growing pumpkins in the bush alongside my horse paddock 😁

Buy some Beano, take a lozenge prior to eating. It puts the right stuff in your gut to digest them properly without gas. Eat them once or twice a week and you will keep your new biome buddies.

Hey David, I live in Florida and have very sandy soil. I’ve been wondering if I could add a layer of baseball clay or pure clay cat litter to my garden and/or to the compost bin to add clay to the soil. Do you think it would do any good. I know it depends on how much you add. It is worth the try. Thanks for your opinion.

I used this same approach to multiply my sweet potatoes. Cucurbits (squashes, melons, etc.) do the same thing. Basically ANY vining or caning plant. Go on, go out to your garden right and try it!

I think it depends on the kind of tree. Fruit trees yes. Maple and Sycamore will grow through the grass. And with maple trees if you fertilize the grass the roots will come up and take over. I'm looking at fruit trees this fall for planting. I'll be mulching for them. Next spring I want to put strawberry plants under them to double the ground usage. I'm not in Florida and live in clay soil instead of sand like you. I'll ask my farmer friend what to do about it.

I have a now 2yr old peach tree (my parents brought me peaches from their trees in the summer of 2021. We ate the fruit and I planted a seed just to see what would happen and in the spring of 2022 a baby peach tree popped up for me!) So it is not a grafted specimen, bareroot or such but my own little baby. Can you tell me when I should start pruning it with these goals in mind? The base is about 1/2in wide and has 3 branches at about 1ft growth. I read to prune at the Summer Solstice to retard vigor so I'd appreciate information if I need to do something soon or wait until Winter Solstice or even next year since it's so young. I am reading the Ann Ralph book currently but since her recommendations start with bareroot so I am at a loss of what to do with this new little tree.

These guitar solos always get me. It's like, peace, mellow, chill out vibes and then....funk, out of nowhere. It's like I am eating a piece of wedding cake and someone wedged a slice of Swiss cheese in the icing layer 🎂 🧀 🎸

I'm in central FL also. Planted a lemon tree 1 year and a half ago and is struggling to take off. I figured it needed slightly more acidic soil since all peppers and herbs are growing fine.

Its interesting all the various iterations you can make in a garden. I'm experimenting with certain plants enjoying morning or afternoon shade. Its too soon to be definitive but theres likely something there if you looknand think!

My mother-in-law planted a fruit tree right in her lawn and the grass was barely 6 inches to a foot away from the trunk. It struggled for 2 years before it died even though it was getting watered. The grass was taking everything from the soil and leaving crumbs for the fruit tree. Thanks for posting
